The Joys of Potty Training

Yes, we are still in the "training" phase of the potty thing but I have faith that we will overcome!!

Here is the latest in the saga....

Ian will "go" whenever you take him to the potty but telling us that he has to "go" is not happening yet. He also has no issue with going "poop" (for lack of a better term) on the potty but we have to catch him at the right time in order for that to happen...get my drift??
All of that to say, we started rewarding Ian with small little toys from a "prize basket" whenever he "pooped" in the potty. Its been working really well (Ian loves the "prize baksit)", except for the afore mentioned problem of him not telling us that he has to go until its over. But we have pressed forward trying to make it one day at a time. Its a daily reminder to Ian, "Tell Mommy and Daddy when you need to go poop and you can get a prize from the prize basket." Well, the other day he and Jeff were at Sonic eating lunch in the truck. All of a sudden from the backseat Jeff hears Ian say, "Daddy, I got to prize baksit!"

He was right....and he even waited until Jeff could get him home. Funny little fellow!

Have you considered stripping him down and letting him run around without any pants and underwear or diaper on? I did this with Jack, because he wouldn't tell us and it worked rather quickly (within about two weeks, he would tell us every time). I still had to constantly ask him if he needed to go as he ran around 1/2 naked. I think he started to go once before he got to the potty, but that was it. This might be a little more challenging right now, since it's so cold.

We also did the prize thing. I actually made a chart and he got a sticker every time he went, then he got a prize after every 5 stickers.

Congrats to Ian so far and good luck.

How cute! Loving the prize basket idea. We have not even started yet, we waited with Thomas and then he did it within a couple weeks. But like Jennifer (above) said, our secret was that he ran around naked, b/c it only took a few times for him to go on the floor before he would start running to the bathroom himself. Logan, will probably not care if he goes on the floor, he will probably think it is funny! Wish me luck when I start, I was going to start as soon as school lets out, I have all summer to make sure he is potty trained for his little mother's day out. I think that prize basket will be a great idea! I dread the process with him though b/c he does not do things like Thomas did them. Thomas was easy across the board. Logan is super cute but alot harder so far!
